At 8 pm:
Moving Star will present its signature improvisational approach and join the whole audience in circle singing and songs of universal appeal. Moving Star is a collective of singers from diverse traditions who meet weekly to exchange songs and musical games, and to collaborate on new vocal creations. Singers include members of The M6: Meredith Monk Music Third Generation and practitioners of the vocal improvisation techniques of Bobby McFerrin and Rhiannon as well as classical, jazz and world music trained singers, singer-songwriters and composers. www.movingstarvoices.org
At 9 pm:
Lush Tongue is a vocal improvisation project created by the interdisciplinary sound artist, Onome. Live, spontaneously composed music performance is used as a tool for catharsis and empowerment in primarily women-centric spaces. Through workshops, solo and ensemble performances, Lush Tongue uplifts the voices of female composers and vocalists. One of Onome's primary collaborators is Bonita Oliver, a singer, songwriter, and actress. www.lushtongue.com
At 9:40pm:
Vocal trio, Up at Dawn, featuring Sasha Bogdanowitsch, Emily Eagen, Tim Kiah, will be presenting their first concert. They specialize in singing old and new songs in close harmony and fresh interpretations of folk music. Their repertoire ranges from American and English folk musics, Old Time ballads, shape note hymns, and originals by the singers themselves.
At 10:20pm:
Eleni Arapoglou is a singer from Athens, Greece, currently based in New York. This evening at Jalopy Theatre Elenu will sing textures, sounds, rhythms and melodies influenced by different parts of the world, both composed and improvised, as well as soulful renditions of her favorite songs.
