The Songs of the Carter Family - An 8 Week Class with Isto
Wednesdays 8-9pm
March 15th, 22nd, 29th April 5th, 19th, 26th May 3rd, 10th, Make up day: May 17th

In this class, we will learn to play some classic songs from the Carter Family's repertoire. We will play them with basic chords, but will also go over Maybelle Carter's guitar technique, and learn some of her arrangements. We will look at approaches for playing the songs with more than one guitarist, and if we have enthusiastic singers in the class, we may go over some vocal harmonies. Students should leave class with everything they need to start their own Carter-influenced folk/country groups. Open to anybody who knows the basic chords on the guitar. If you know most of these chords and feel comfortable moving between them, you'll be fine: E, A, D, G, C, F, E7, A7, D7, G7, B7, Em, Am, Dm. Students should get capos if they don't have them already. These can be purchased at the Jalopy.
